David Krakauer Let’s get started. First of all, Cormac [McCarthy] is on his way. We said, “He knows. He knows.” I said, “Let me just give him a call.” “Hello?” “Hello. It’s tomorrow, isn’t it?” So he’s en route. He’ll be here in his very large truck, so expect casualties.
Okay, I want to get a little background on why we’re here and you’ll see it’s fairly free-form. This should be free-form. The primary purpose of this little group here is to get to know each other. So tangible outcomes of the sorts you might be accustomed to in meetings are not particularly interesting at this table. That’s number one. Everyone should have an opportunity to say something. If someone is saying too much, I will shut them up and give everyone a chance to speak.
I want to discuss deep ideas, so it’s going to be an intellectual conversation at this table to get us all sort of limbered up for this evening. Allen looked and he said, “You’re all nervous.” I said—
Allen Ez No, I was just wondering how Lou’s going to fare.
D. Krakauer Yeah, I think Allen is going to ask him about quantum mechanics at some point.
A. Ez Only if you want to see a grown man cry.
D. Krakauer Towards the end we’ll talk a little bit about logistics and implementation-type stuff. Again, that’s not so interesting here, and then we’ll get into October and June and where this whole project is going. A few things first: What is the InterPlanetary Project about? In a nutshell, it’s understanding living planets. Is it the evolution of living planets? The laws on living planets? Physical law? Biological law? Social law? Economic law? It’s understanding living planets and their long-term prospects, including their collapse. It’s not just planets out there; it’s our own, and that’s very important. It’s the only one that we know of that’s living, but InterPlanetary gives us a rather unique perspective on that.
